Recycled house

Strategic interventions transformed this house in Mountainview, CA. Several small, disparate rooms with low ceilings were expanded volumetrically into a new home infused with daylight. The existing house was demolished but for the garage, and many structural elements were given new life in the new home. Carefully inserted additions extend the home’s inherent vernacular of a ranch typology. The simplicity of a energy efficient, daylight-filled interior has enabled the growing family to personalize their spaces over time. Clerestory windows, skylights and a new patio connect the house to the outdoors.
