Julia Morgan : Architecture for sustainability

As a project partner of the Julia Morgan Festival, Sandhya conducted research at the Julia Morgan Collection through a grant provided by Environmental Design Archives (EDA) at UC Berkeley. 

The research led to a publication by Landmarks California that focused on several of Julia Morgan's buildings in the San Francisco bay area.  Morgan's approach to architecture emulates contemporary principles of sustainability and energy conservation, writes Sandhya. The essay was republished  in "Preservation Matters", newsletter of the California Office of Historic Preservation ( OHP) and the newsletter of the Oakland Heritage Association ( OHA).

Landmarks California, a state led organization, was created to promote historic preservation of places of diverse histories and cultures. Its pilot project in 2012 was the state wide Julia Morgan Festival that celebrated the remarkable legacy of architect Julia Morgan.
