This unique house was built in 1901, more than 120 years ago. It recently underwent a rehabilitation that incorporated deconstructed old growth wood and exterior restoration of its character defining features. Sustainable techniques utilized for repairing ornamental wood corbels, broad moldings and window sashes will ensure their future preservation. The reinterpreted primary façade balances exposed wood elements with newly finished surfaces, respecting the home’s Bay Tradition lineage. The building’s dramatic transformation led to its successful nomination as a City of Berkeley Landmark (#344).
