The cultural center at the Indian Institute of Immunology sits at the edge of an undulating, rocky site in New delhi. It is designed by Raj Rewal, winner of the Robert Mathew award of the Commonwealth Association of Architects. Taking a cue from the region's vernacular architecture, Rewal connected canopies with concrete beams to frame the radiant sky from the terrace. Campus buildings are linked through a system of walkways, gardens and courtyards, laid on a series of shifting axes, offering dynamic views of the natural landscape.
As an intern at the site office, Sandhya was observing construction, responding to RFI's and coordinating with Rewal's office. It was here that Sandhya learnt the process of shuttering and pouring concrete columns in situ. A prepared site report fetched first position in the fourth academic year as an undergraduate architecture student.
